There was a little girl with a pretty little hat,
And a pretty pink bow, and a fluffy toy cat.
She would carry it around, and a pretty pink comb,
That she used every single day until her Mummy left home.

She’d shouted that she’d leave and that she’d never come back
And that Daddy was going to give her a panic attack.

Silence.

Dad said Mummy had to work and that’s why she left,
But she saw Mummy fall down, her back stained blood red.

Her Daddy said Mum’s back ‘was crying’,
And to go back to bed.

She heard the next-door neighbour
Say that Mummy was

“Wed?” asked the vicar; “Yes, your Mummy was wed.
To your Daddy, no less, in this church.” He said.
“It’s a shame about his problem.” And he tapped his head.

She thought about her Daddy when she walked back home.
She thought about her hat, with it’s pretty pink bow.
She thought about her fluffy cat, and her pretty pink comb.
Her Daddy wasn’t there, when she got back home.

She heard the next-door neighbour
Say that Daddy was

A drunken psychopath.

She never saw her Mummy or her Daddy again.
Endless foster homes and bad behaviour.

Whatever happened to the pretty little hat?
And the pretty little bow, and the fluffy toy cat?

The educational psychologist hazarded a guess,
That they had disappeared when
Daddy raped her.
